|Tangkoko-Batuangas Dua Saudara Nature Reserve|
Dubbed as one of the most impressive and accessible nature reserves in Indonesia, Tangkoko-Batuangas Dua Saudara Nature Reserve has 8800 hectares of open grassland covered with a great variety of plants. Located on the slopes of mount "Dua Saudara", the area is composed of impressive green hills and valleys with amazingly scenic views of natural beauty and houses black macaques, cuscuses, maleo birds, red-knobbed hornsbill and the tarsier - the smallest monkey in the world. Other popular species of wildlife to spot include macaques and red-knobbed hornbills. as well as other fauna and rare rainforest flora. Tangkoko-Batuangas Dua Saudara Nature Reserve also houses offshore coral gardens and beautiful beach.
Located in the northern sector of Bitung, this nature reserve is about 50km from Manado around 1.5 -2.5 hour drive from Bitung or Manado, respectively. The road to Tangkoko is somewhat difficult and visitors are recommended to visit with a local tour operators to ensure a safe journey and to take advantage of an experienced guide who can assist in spotting the wildlife.
Hiking through the forest for tarsius spotting is the most popular activity in this nature reserve, tarsius is tiny nocturnal primate with eyes bigger that its stomach. Other interesting activities range from birdwatching to fishing and dolphin-spotting tour.
