We recently spent 2 nights at Nikko resort on early March 2012. We booked an ocean view room but received complimentary upgrade to deluxe beachfront. While we appreciate the upgrade, the room we got was somewhat humid and the aircon wasn't cool enough. The view from the hotel is indeed splendid. The hotel grounds were spacious with perfectly manicured gardens, variety of swimming pools and of course long stretch of white sands with a signature picture-perfect lone tree. While we were there, we witnessed a small wedding by the beach and it was gorgeous! Although the currents are a bit strong during our stay, we enjoyed lounging around the beach and pool during our stay. We also went camel riding by the beach, though it ended abruptly when other riders fell of the camel! Not to blame the hotel though because the camel safari is provided by external vendor. Tour desk, however, was not really helpful and informative, they only have 1 activities partner and has to phone the tour operator for price quote. We ended up not going for dive/snorkeling trips, but we didn't regret our decision to relax and lounge by the hotel. One word of advice, there's a construction project underway for another hotel just adjacent to Nikko resort. The noise from the construction might be a little disruptive to the whole lounging-relaxing atmosphere that you're expecting.
