Indonesia’s first open full marathon race in over 20 years is to be held in Bali on Sunday, April 22, 2012
BII-Maybank presents BII-Maybank Bali Marathon 2012 featuring Full and Half Marathon distances in addition to a 10K race. Team participation via the relay team category is also open to groups of friends, running clubs and corporate groups,
The race will begin and end in front of the Bali Taman Safari and Marine Park in Gianyar passing through scenic Balinese countryside and traditional villages. Along the race route marshals in traditional Balinese dress and local orchestra’s will make this race unlike any other in the world.
Total prizes of over US$ 20,000, an international standard course and a line-up that will include elite international athletes is expected to draw 3,000 runners from Indonesia and around the world.

Venue: Near to the Bali Safari and Marine Park.

The last day of The 5th Annual Balispirit Festival (28 March – 1 April 2012) The BaliSpirit Festival is a spiritually charged event that celebrates yoga, dance and music and the synergy of global cultural collaboration through the arts. This event merges the indigenous and rich cultures of Indonesia in the spirit of learning, collaboration and the celebration of creative and spiritual diversity. Bali Spirit Festival will be held in Purnati Center of the Arts Batuan and Arma.

April 6, 2012 Bhatara Turun Kabeh Ceremony

Friday , 6th April, 2012 which concurs with the full moon of the tenth month (Kadasa) of Balinese Caka calendar, the Bhatara Turun Kabeh Ceremony (gods descend all together) will be held in Besakih, the mother temple of Bali. The Bhatara Turun Kabeh Ceremony is held once a year on the full moon of Kadasa and last for weeks. Balinese believe that when this ceremony is held, the gods of all the temples on Bali gather in the main temple (Penataran Agung) of Besakih temple complex. Like people, the gods that descend to attend this grand ceremony need to be sheltered, fed and entertained. The temple and offerings take care of the room and board, and the entertainment is provided by music and dances. Hundreds of musicians and dancers will give their best performance to entertain the gods in this ceremony. There will be a lot of festivities in the Penataran Agung for weeks.

April 21, 2012 Tumpek Kandang

This holiday is dedicated to Sang Hyang Rare Angon, the god of all cattle and livestock. On this day Balinese show their appreciation and thankfulness to all domesticated animals that help them in everyday life. On this holiday day, domesticated animals in Bali receive a great attention; the cows are washed in the river and dressed-up like human beings, with special cone-shaped spiral of coconut leaf placed on their horns. The pigs are decorated, with their bellies wrapped with a white or yellow cloth. The domesticated animals are fed with the best food. A special offering is made for Sang Hyang Rare Angon, the god of all cattle and livestock, prayer is offered to the God for the welfare of the domesticated these animals. Holy water and rice are sprinkled to the head of these animals at the end of the ceremony.
