On Yadnya
The meaning of Yadnya can be divided into two, the wider and the narrower meaning. Yadnya in the wider meaning means every act which is done in sincere and conscious that it is offered to God. For the narrower meaning, Yadnya means an offering, worship, holy sacrifice which is often related with Banten (means in the Balinese offerings which is usually made from young coconut leaves, and containing fruits, flowers, leaves, betel vine, foods, cakes, and sesari – a little money as an offering).
Balinese Temple and Identity
Paying homage and praying to a temple is not just an act of devotion to God for Balinese, it is more than just a religious activity. In socio-political context praying in a temple for a Balinese is also an act to justify his positions in the society, his position in a clan, his position in a village, etc in short praying to the temple is an act of justifying his identity.

| Germans picked as first foreigners to visit Indonesia in 2008 January 2nd, 2008
Jakarta - German couple Michel and Jennifer Franchon Bernard did not expect to be feted as the first foreigners to visit Indonesia when on New Year’s Day they stepped into Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, a newspaper report said Wednesday. “What a surprise,” Michel Franchon Bernard told The Jakarta Post when a West Javan Sundanese dance troupe welcomed them upon their arrival. “We are very happy. We never dreamed of this happening.” The couple arrived Tuesday from Singapore for a two-week stay, during which they plan to see Jakarta, Bali and Lombok and immediately received their first souvenirs: flower wreaths and batik clothing from airport operator PT Angkasa Pura. Thewelcome was made to support the government programme Visit Indonesia Year 2008, during which the country aims to attract 7 million foreign visitors, up from 5.5 million in 2006, as well as up to 6.4 billion dollars in foreign exchange. |
