Davenport captures Bali crown

Bali, Indonesia (Sports Network) - Lindsay Davenport completed a successful return to singles tennis with a three-set victory over Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova to capture the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic title.

Davenport earned a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 triumph to claim the Bali title for the second time. She also won this tournament in 2005, but this victory came in her first singles action since last September.

The former world No. 1 became a new mother just three months ago, giving birth to son Jagger in June.

“It’s crazy. Maybe the pregnancy gave me some magical powers, I don’t know,” said Davenport.

Davenport earned a first prize of $32,340 for her 52nd career singles title and first since the 2005 season. She didn’t have much trouble the entire week, dropping a set just once on her way to the final. That set loss came in an upset of top-seeded Jelena Jankovic in the quarterfinals.

Australian charter operator OzJet will move into the improving Bali market later this month. Following on the success of its Perth-Derby service launched earlier this year, the carrier will start a three times weekly operation between Perth and Denpasar.

OzJet general manager Western Australia, Richard George, said the new service was a measure of the airlines continuing commitment to grow its business in the west. Our operations in Western Australia are going from strength to strength and with our Bali schedule taking off, OzJet is poised to continue to expand its charter business, he said.

The inaugural OzJet Perth-Bali service will leave Perth on Wednesday, September 26, with scheduled services operating every Wednesday, departing at 15.40, arriving in Denpasar at 18-15. The two other services on Saturday and Sunday, will depart at 10.30 and arrive at Denpasar at 14.15. All flights return to Perth an hour later.

The airlines 737-200 aircraft is configured for 102 passengers, including eight business class seats. OzJet also operates regular services to Norfolk Island from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Newcastle; from Brisbane to Port Moresby; and from Perth to Derby.
