It was told that Gorontalo was a kingdom at the Hulawa village in Telaga district, near the Bolango River.

Some researches say that on the year of 1024 based on the Islamic calendar system, the capital city of the Kingdom was moved from the Hulawa village to Dungingi in Tuladenggi, which is now situated at the West Kota district.

Then, under the rule of Sultan Botutihe, the capital city of the kingdom was moved again from Dungingi to an area which was located between the Biawao village and Limba district. The name of Gorontalo itself legalized on 6 Sakban 1140 Hijriah, according to the Islamic calendar system.
