The capital of Polewali mamasa is Polewali. It is about 247 kilometers north of Ujung Pandang. This regency is inhabited by four ethnic groups namely Mndar, Bugis, toraja barat (West Toraja), and Java.

The last ethnic group has settled down in Kecamatan Wonomulyo since the dutch colonialism. Mandar people have been popu;ar with their silk sarong (lipa sa’be). While the Toraja people who live in Mamasa are well known with their cotton-made blankets.

Mamasa which is located on a higher land of this regency, viewed from the cultural aspects is included as Toraja barat. On the way from Bittuang to Mamasa, we can find a route with spectacular view through the mountainous area.

Most areas such as Buntu Balla, Buntu kasisi, ballapeu, and melobo are th epalces which can give you an exciting view. From these places, you can also find certain cultural ceremonies and dances which once in a while are displayed.
