Patra Jasa targets higher end travellers with revamp plans [published on Sep 12, 2003] | The Patra Bali Resort & Villas, Bali was launched in grand style last night by Indonesia’s minister for culture and tourism, Mr I Gede Ardika, in a gala dinner at the resort’s poolside. The event marked the start of a transformation process for all the group’s six properties.
Next up, Patra Jasa will revamp the Patra Jasa Semarang Resort & Convention Hotel. Patra Jasa president director and CEO, Mr Tony Purbowo, said: “This hotel will also be undergoing a total change of concept. The fact that we have the largest meeting facility in the city is the hotel’s plus point. What we need to do next is to make the property a real convention hotel.”
The Semarang renovations, which start next year, will see rooms increased from 146 to 246. This will be followed by an upgrade of the group’s 26-room Bandung hotel into a boutique property. Meanwhile, the Patra Jasa Anyer Beach Resort, west of Jakarta will also be reshaped to become a top class resort. “We are not after any star rating. What we are doing is to lift the properties up to reach the upper end of the market, be it leisure, business, or convention,” Mr Purbowo said.
The Bali property cost Patra Jasa US$17.5 million to renovate. The average room rate is expected to double from the current US$35, Mr Purbowo said.
