Location: Amandari is an upcountry retreat perched on an escarpment high above the winding Ayung River gorge in Ubud - Bali. Amandari lies adjacent to the village of Kedewatan and close by Ubud, Bali's vibrant art community. The resort has been designed as a walled Balinese village, with river-stone walkways linking to the 30 thatched-roof pavilions.
Amandari reflects the upcountry village culture of art and music and dance and design that surrounds it. It is this inspired integration of the resort with the Balinese world about it that makes Amandari a memorable experience.
Leisures: Amandari's swimming pool is fashioned of emerald-green tiles. The curving sweep of lightly salted water mimics the rice terraces the tumble below. Each evening, gamelan players perform from the music pavilion behind the pool. The open-air Bar, close by the pool, offers a selection of alcoholic and fresh-fruit drinks.
Amandari's guest facilities include the library, with an outdoor patio made for late afternoon tea and a good book. The floodlit tennis court includes a bale and table for between-game refreshments.
The resort's health and fitness center was built with wide, window views to a lotus pond. The exercise room includes a variety of equipment and free weights. The Balinese-style complex also features change rooms and showers, along with a sauna and steam bath.
From facials and manicures to cream baths and mandi lulur massage, the health and fitness center offers a wide range of Balinese beauty and massage services. Two open-air massage bales complement the center.
The Restaurant, open to the country air and crafted largely of teak wood, overlooks Amandari's swimming pool and the gorge. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and specializes in Western and local Indonesian dishes. The Bar, with its terrace seating, features a wide selection of drinks. Private dining is available 24 hours a day in the suites.
Amenities: Balinese-style stone gateways front Amandari's 30 walled, thatched-roof suites, with their private garden courtyard. The outdoor courtyard of each terrace and duplex suite comes with a sunken marble bath.
In a duplex suite, the living room and private bar are located on the ground level, with the bedroom and its queen-size bed on the second floor.
