The population of Central Java was 28.6 million in 1990, 49.36 percent male and 50.64 percent female. Central Java is one of the most densely populated provinces, about 896 persons per square kilometer.
For their living, the people work as farmers, traders, civil servants, employees of private enterprises. Apart from the native tribes, there are also some foreign nations living in the province.
Most of them are Arabic, Chinese, Indian and Pakistanese. As regard to the native women, most of the older generation wear attires called "Kebaya", while those who are teenagers and adults wear more modern clothes, like blouses and skirts or trousers.
As for the men, it can be said that those living in rural areas wear Sarong and shirt. The Javanese people are famous for their friendliness, courtesy and hospitality, which are typical to the Javanese habits.
