There are many kinds of tropical plants in Central Java. They are divided into three groups: staple food such as paddy (rice) and corn; vegetables such as cabbages, carrots, celeries, celery, garlic and potatoes; industrial plants, such as tobacco, cane, cotton, tea, chocolate, coconut palm, etc.
There are also various kinds of tropical flowers, which grow well in the province for example Mawar (Rose), Melati (Jasmine), Kenanga (Cananga Odorata), Orchid, Sun Flower, etc.
In terms of flower, the Melati, the Kenanga and Kantil are typical flower of Central Java, which cannot be separated from the people's daily life. The mixture of these flowers known as " Kembang Telon" is usually used as part of an offering in any ritual done by the Javanese. Roses (mawar) are often used when visiting the cemetery.
On the occasion of the World Environment Day 1990, Indonesia made a definite choice of " The Melati" (Jasminum sambac) as the National Flower. Some flowers were also selected to identify the region/province in order to introduce them as the uniqueness of one special kind of flora and fauna.
The Central Java Province has chosen "The Kantil" flower (Michelia alba) as the provincial identity flowers.
The animals, which are found in Central Java are not much different from the animals found in other ASEAN regions, such as various kinds of birds and suckler or mammals.
The birds consist of paddy bird (Gelatik), pigeon/dove (Merpati), thrush (Kutilang), starling (Jalak), jungle fowl with its beautiful feathers and voices, etc.
Fowls, goats, sheep, buffaloes, cows and horses are domesticated by the villagers. The most famous fowl is "Ayam Kedu" it is relatively dear when everything in its body is black. Central Java has also jungle animals, such as wild pig (babi hutan), deer, monkey, tiger and snake.
Sea fish can be found in Semarang, Cilacap, Pekalongan, Jepara, etc. Apart from sea fish there are also fresh water fishes such as carp, gold fish, lele (Clerius melanoderma), shrimp, etc.
