As the native people, the Dayak tribes have their own tradition and culture. They prefer to live in groups, where the families live in a house called Lamin (Long House). Each family that lives in the long house is separated only by a wooden wall.

They live in a very harmonious atmosphere, helping each other in their daily lives.
Most of the Dayak ethnic clans believe in supernatural spirits. They built statues and set these in all of the Lamin terraced walls. They believe that the statues are able to protect them from bad spirits, disease and sickness.

To heal sickness and disease, they conduct the “Belian Ceremony”. This is a ceremony in which they dance and play their traditional music.

The Dayak women in earlier times used to have a long ear lobes and tattoos all over their bodies. The tattooing was traditionally carried out in order to make them beautiful. But nowadays these traditions are rarely met by the women because of modernization.
