 Sarangan (1,287 meters above sea level) is located at the western mc of East Java on the slope of Mount Lawu. It is a superb hill resort f walking, climbing, pony trekking and motor boating around the lake. Good hotels and bungalows are available around the lake.
The view of the lake and the surrounding quite spectacular. The beauty nature, awaits you in East Java whether you come for the day, a weekend break, or more leisurely stay. Go down the hill, visit the region of Ponorogo is a must. It is 73 km south east of this lake.
Ponorogo is not a big town, however, is well known of the home of reog dance. Reog Ponorogo dance is amazed by foreign tourist. It's most striking feature, capturing the intentions of photographers. The big mask is the enormous head dress worn by the leading dancer, a tiger mask topped by a magnificent and huge fan weighing around 50 kg made of peacock tail feathers. A strong dancer is able to support some other mask dancers who sit on the head of tiger.
Pacitan 78 km south of Ponorogo is a region of thousand caves. Some them are still unspoilt and stric tly protected as for nature conservation while some other are opened for public and developed to be a speleo tourism asset. Gong cave the outstanding under wonder, and works God formed eons before any human architects existed here, stalactite and stalagmites are found over the cave by dripping deposits of carbonate of lime.
Among the speleotourism, Gong cave is the best throughout Indonesia. Cave guides are available to help you anytime needed. From Pacitan just 1 hour drive to the west you can continue your journey to Surakarta in Central Java. |
