The Majapahit dynasty ruled Nusantara (old name of Indonesia Archipelago) over 2 centuries, from AD 1293 -1519. Under the rule of King Rajasanagara (Hayam Wuruk) AD 1350-1389, Majapahit Kingdom reached its golden era. He was the king that succeeded in uniting Indonesian archipelago.

During those periods there were many legacies left as cultural heritage throughout East lava. The artifact sites of the Majapahit Kingdom are dominantly found in Trowulan area (60 km west of Surabaya). Trowulan Archaeological Museum, displays about 2,000 remains of Majapahit Kingdom.

Collection of terracotta and stone remains such as potteries, the sun of Majapahit, miniature typical house, Chinese and Vietnamese ceramics from IX- XVII century are displayed on the first floor. Old coins, daggers, spears, ritual ceremony equipments, musical instruments are displayed on the second floor.

Close to this area, the Pendopo Agung Trowulan could be your place to take a rest. It is strongly predicted that this place was the point where the main building of Majapahit ancient palace was established.

Bajang Ratu Temple is a sample of the Baiang Ratu Temple gateway during that time. It is a pleasing temple and had been completely renovated. The shape of the temple looks like an elegant gateway, made of red bricks within illustrations of a beautiful head of giant on the entrance.

Look at the ornaments on its relief, the carving of dragon and long ear enamel, they probably dated from around mid 14- century. About five hundred meters to the south east of this temple your next stop is Tikus Temple. This is a kind of ritual bathing pool for the royal family during that period.

Brahu Temple is another ancient heritage. It can be found twenty minutes drive north west of Tikus Temple. This temple is 25.7 meters high, made from red bricks. No ornaments are founded on it, the roof is designed in stupa style (domed monumental shrine to the Buddha). Scientist predicted that this building is reputed to Buddhistic building.

Wringin Lawang Temple is a split gateway from that era. It has 13.7 meters high of red bricks construction. It is an entrance to enter the holy building. This temple is situated close to the main road Mojokerto- Surabaya. It was completely renovated in 1995.
