Top:/Destinations/East Java/Places to visit/G- Land
'G-Land' perhaps this is the most thrilling surfer destination. 'G' derives from Grajagan, name of the bay at the South of Banyuwangi where the huge waves are found. For goofy-foot surfers (those who stand with their right foot forward) it is possibly to be one of the seven best waves in the world.
It is certainly the longest and fastest left-hand tube yet found. G-Land, as it has been dubbed by surfers, can handles swell up to four meters along 2 km waves. It is surrounded by virgin tropical land forest. G-Land offers the world's most demanding surfing sport, and is recommended for professional surfers only. May to October is the best season to surf.
No doubt it is a world of surfer paradise. Most of surfers start from Bali, take an overland to Banyuwangi and cross the Grajagan Bay to Plengkung beach where the waves challenge. G-Land, however, is not recommended for the novices.
Ijen Crater situated at the border between Banyuwangi and Bondowoso Regency is a second East lava's nature wonder.
It is more adventurous trip; no horses could be hired along 3 kilos hilly path to the crater. You have to leave the last post at Paituding for the crater at 4.00 AM. Along this path you will find scenic panorama on the fresh and cool
ljen Crater
The protected flower of 'Eidelweiss" could be found in this area. The crater has 5,466 acres wide on the elevation of 2,386 meter above sea level. About 200 meters down from the crater rim a traditional sulfur mining could be found. The crater contains about 36 million cubic meters of turquoise acid water. On dry season from April to October the temperature drops to 2° - 18° Centigrade.
