 Administratively, Krakatau, which situated on the northern of Sunda Strait, between Java and Sumatra is a part of the Province of Lampung. It is well known since the 16th century. On that time, th eSunda Strait had become such business route of European (Dutch, England, etc) to the East.
Nowadays, the Sunda straits has playing such important role, more than just a business route route, but scientifically as a field for geological and marine research. Ancient Krakatau was estimated 2,000 meters in height and radius of 9 kms.
Its great eruption happened in pre history in 416 as documented in the ancient Javanese book "Pustaka Raja", and left 3 island as the rest i.e. Rakata, Sertung and Panjang Island. In the later expanding Rakata comes and followed by Danan and Perbuatan volcanic summits.
The latest great eruption of Krakatau volcano happened on 27th of the August 1883 and destroyed most of its body (3/4 of it). It caused big wave with 40 metres height. A stemship anchored in Teluk Betung port was thrown 2.5 kms away and washed ashore in the lower course of Kuripan river. It also caused ash and stone hail covered 300.000 squared miles or some 483 sq kms within a radius of 150 kms.
Jakarta (Batavia) and around Sunda Strait such as Anyer, Merak, Labuan, Kalianda, Teluk Betung and Kota Agung became pitch dark.
The eruption was heard from Phillippines, Alice Springs, Rodriquez Island and Madagascar. The power of its eruption was estimated to 21,547.6 atom bomb multiplied.
Besides that, the ash hail produced by the eruption caused obstruction of the view to the sun, so that it created a spectacular view as if the sun was almost gone.
After taking a rest for about 44 years, the child of Krakatau appears on December 1927 dan keep on growing until now. You may come and step up here for finding mineral resources, such as: volcanic bomb, lava and lapilli which come out from the center of the earth. Krakatau which now has reach 200 m above the sea, within the 2km of diameter, and its great explosion seem waiting for anybody to discover it, no matter for scientific or only for recreation purposes.
To reach Krakatau you may cross from Canti to Kalianda, with one hour of driving car or with motorboat, from Bandar Lampung. Not far from Krakatau, there are Sebuku Island and Sabesi as a place for such temporary stay. It only takes about 1.5 hours from canti to this place.
