The province of Lampung is situated in the southwest region of Sumatra Island, Indonesia, i.e. between 3°- 6° south latitude and 103°-105° west longitude, covering a total area of 35,376.50 square km (about 1,74% of Indonesian area), bordered by the Indian Ocean to the west, Bengkulu and South Sumatra to the north, Java Sea to the east, and Sunda Straits as the southern border.
The Lampung area is mountainous. The western side of the province consists mainly of hills and highland, whilst the eastern area is the lowland, fed by the rivers including the Way, Mesuji, Tulang Bawang, Seputih and Sekampung. The east coast is muddy and home to mangrove plantations.
There are many islands situated on the Lampung Bay, such as: Sebuku, Condong, Condong darat, Condong Laut, Sertung, Panjang, Krakatau Besar, and Anak Krakatau. as Mount Anak Krakatau, next to the famous Mount Krakatau, is being pushed up through the sea by volcanic activity and is getting higher every year.
