It is a self-governing principality known as Pura Mangkunegaran. This Palace was built in 1757 to settle a dispute between King Paku Buwono II of the Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta and one of its Aristocracy RM. Said who is later known as Prince Mangkunegoro I or Pangeran Sambernyowo.

He belongs a noble Javanese hero who lead faithful follower to fight the Dutch Colonial Ruler. Due to courageous struggle of Prince sambernyowo, he is awarded the title of National hero by Governmnet of the Republic of Indonesia. Now, the palace becomes the official residence of KGPAA. Mangkunegoro IX.

The palace exhibits as well the relic of the royal treasures such an exquisite collection of classical dance masks, wayang orang costume, leather and wooden “ wayang” puppets, jewelry, antique ornate trinket.
