Ratu Boko, the "Palace of the Enternal Lord" , is the remains of a huge Hindu palace complex covering many hectares and dating from the 9th century. It has only recently been opened for visitors and offers a very welcome peaceful atmosphere after the crowds found at Borobudur and other well known sites.

This enigmatic temple lying on a hill overlooking the Prambanan Plain, is the best candidate for a site which was designatedfor secular as well as religious activities. The view from this side across the Prambanan plains is magnificient, and on a smaller plateau a few hundred metres further south is a large plattform af waterspouts and staircases and, below, a group of pools which are still used bythe local villagers. Open: Everyday 6.00 am - 6.00 pm.
