The Kalasan temple is the oldest Buddhist temple in Yogya and Central Java, and dates from 778 AD. It is located 16 kms east of Yogya, on the south side of the main road between Yogya and Prambanan.The temple was built 5 to honour the marriage between King Prapanca of the Sanjaya dynasty and Princess Dyah Pramudya VVardhani of the Syailendra dynasty. Kalasan is beautifully ornamented with finely carved reliefs and coated with 'vairalepa@, a yellow material made from the sap of a sacred tree.Open: Everyday 6.00 am - 600. pm.
