Taman (park) Ujung set in Tumbu village, about 80 km east of Denpasar, or only around 5 km southeast of Amlapura city. The park stands on a 10 ha land, vertically terracing to the north with the height of 30-133 meters above the sea level.

Taman Ujung was built on 1919 by the King of Karangasem and was launched on 1921. It was the place where the king entertained the honorable dignitaries who came to the Karangasem. Beside that, it was also the resting place for the King and the royal family.

There were three large ponds in this park. Amidst the north pond, there was the main building which was linked by the two bridges. The ponds were surrounded by the fabulous garden with unique statues and flowers pots. The building used to be so grandiose – suitably mixed up the Balinese and the European architectures, before the earthquake destroyed the partial part of the park.

In the western part of the pond stood a circling construction, called ‘bale bengong’ – the place to relax while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding garden. Meanwhile, to reach the top of the hill situated west of the park, terraced footsteps were built. In the northern part of the park, there were the big ‘warak’(rhinoceros) and buffalo statues, in which waters used to be pouring out from the mouths of the statues flowing to the ponds.

From the top of the hill, we can view a magnificent scene. At the northeast direction appears the Bisbis hills with its green fertile forest, at the south direction shows the deep blue sea, while around the park, the green terracing rice paddy field harmoniously presents.

But, it was too bad that the earthquakes and the volcanic eruptions destroyed the grandiose park. For years, Taman Ujung was nothing more than the archeological remains. Now, the park is being restored.
