The Bali Art Center built in 1973 is also called as ‘Taman Werdi Budaya’ (The Culture Park). It was built to the design of the outstanding Balinese architect Ida Bagus Tugur.

This cultural development center is strategically located on Jl. Nusa Indah of Abiankapas village, Kesiman district, a suburb of Denpasar, only about a 15-minute walk east of Kereneng station.

Lay down in a soothing garden with lotus ponds in the midst of luxuriously carved elaborate Balinese constructions, the Taman Werdi Budaya hosts Balinese artists to create, to learn, to train and to show their creations.

Here, both Balinese and Indonesian permanent fine-art exhibition open everyday. Visitors may visit this place at around 7 am to 3.30 pm daily. Modern paintings, masks and woodcarvings are featured within its museum and small handicraft shops.

This art center has three main stages: the Ksirarnawa at the second floor of the building; Arda Chandra, the open- air stage; and the Wantilan stage. The Bali Art College (STSI) is also located in this art center.

Visitors can experience dance and music performances in two open-air amphitheaters with modern lighting. Dances are also regularly staged for the public, including works integrating modern Balinese choreography. The unique Kecak performance staged every night at 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm. Visitors can experience the exotic atmosphere within the performance, the thrilling Balinese song intoned along with the eerie and powerful traditional flickering oil lamps.

The Art Center is also the place where the summer art festival, known as the Bali Art Festival takes place each year. The annually art festival regularly held from mid-June to mid-July, with contests for set of clothes, dance, drama, sendratari performances, music, woodcarving, metalworking, and food.

Every year each of Bali's regencies sending its best teams. Beside of the competitions, you can also see art events, crafts exhibits, and an extravagant production of the Ramayana Ballet. Be sure to book your hotel in advance, since the festival carried out in the high season.

Don’t miss it out, since these amusing and exhilarating cultural shows commonly draw thousands visitors from around the world.
