Built as a reflection of love. First, it is the love to art and painting. And second, it is love to their ownselves. They are Andrian Jean Le Mayeur de Merpres (Belgium) and Ni Nyoman Polok (Balinese, Indonesia).
They met in Banjar Kelandis, Denpasar when Le Mayeur came to Bali for the first time. They are artists; Le Mayeur is a painter and Ni Nyoman Pollok is a dancer. Both have a high dedication to arts.
Their first meeting inspirited them to a romance under working on arts. They were married in 1935 in Denpasar. Ni Nyoman Pollok is the first and main model for Le Mayeur in painting.
After being married they worked hard and made many works. They had many exhibitions after that, such as in Si ngapore (1937), Kuala Lumpur (1941) and Singapore (1941).
From these exhibitions he could collect enough money. Then Le Mayeur decided to buy a land in Sanur. Step by step Le Mayeur built their house using his own skill (he is an engineer ).
They grown to be famous. Le Mayeur with his painting and Ni Pollok (her nickname) with her dancer skill. Le Mayeur has many fans after holding exhibitions around the world.
Some leaders of the world such as Soekarno (the first president of Republic of Indonesia) and Nehru (the prime minister of India) have ever visited his house in Sanur in 1956. They were very impressed with Le Mayeur's works. The President Soekarno expressed his idea to make a museum for Le Mayeur's works.
In 1957, Le Mayeur gave his house (with all its contents) in Sanur to his own wife as a gift. And at the same time, Ni Nyoman Pollok presented the house with all it content to the Indonesian government through the Department of Cultural and Education of Republic of Indonesia. Then, the house and all its content was adopted to be a museum by the government of Indonesia.
After this event, the health of Le Mayeur was getting worst. Even in 1958, he should back to Brussels to have an intensive care. But he was died at the same year and buried in Brussels in May 1958. Ni Pollok backed to Bali, Indonesia and maintained all Le Mayeur's works. She was died July 27, 1985 because of sick.
