Helpful staff, great location

It was with trepidation that we arrived at this hotel after reading some of the reviews so we were delighted by the warm welcome from all the staff, clean and well-appointed rooms and a reasonable restaurant. We stayed twice at this hotel - at the beginning and end of a holiday- and each time it was fine.

The porters used a trolley to take all our luggage to the room after the outside porters had taken it up to the lobby. The rooms are big enough for an overnight stay and the beds are comfortable, with nice linen. The bathroom was good - everything worked and was clean.

The location is great especially when arriving for the first time in Jakarta. If you wanted to see the city you would stay in a city centre hotel so this really is for people changing planes. The morning after we arrived, the shuttle to another terminal was very efficient and check out was quick and non-problematic.

Wifi was free in the lounge - not an issue and enables a little people-watching at the same time.

We ate Indonesian food in the restaurant and it was really good. Breakfasts were fine too - I tried chicken porridge with lots of different condiments; it was good - must be where Heston Blumenthal got his idea for bacon and egg porridge at the Fat Duck?

When we left the hotel to check in, we were helped right to the check-in desk by hotel staff; that was so helpful as the porter guided us through the security checks. Yes, we could have done it ourselves but it made it all very easy.

During the stay we also had a massage at the airport; I had a reflexogy-type treatment and my husband a back massage - excellent and not at all expensive.

The only problem with our stay was that in the airport itself there is a shop selling 'Marine Products' - including sharks' fins; this is really disgusting and upsetting especially as Indonesia tries to develop its tourism industry. Fortunately they weren't doing any business!
