The Edge of Paradise...

Reviewed April 14, 2012 NEW

We stayed at Genggong just for a long weekend over Easter. We booked directly through the Hotel website. The reservation was replied by a friendly email from Aldo, the MD and owner. He arranged for our airport transfer, which took about 1,5h. Upon arrival we were really stunned by this place. We found a small place with a beautifully landscaped yard with I huge lawn area and the ocean just behind a concrete wall. There is also a nice eco pool area with a small jacuzzi. Genggong is one of the few hotels in Candidasa with an own narrow strip of sandy beach which also serves as a marina for local fishing boats and expands at low tide. Not even 20 meters out is nice and intact reef which is great to get an idea about Indonesian aquatic life. You just need a mask and snorkel. We saw a lot of fish and nice hard coral out there. If you are in for a boat ride, the local fishermen on the beach will be available pretty much any time to get you out. Genggong has only 7 rooms which all have a porch and face the ocean, the main building is two story. The rooms with the even nicer view are upstairs. Our room was kept up nicely and had TV, DVD player, hot water maker and a safe. Needless to say, the room was spotless. Aldo or his wife arranged for our trips and massage sessions which were all very reasonably priced. Aldo gave us good hints what to see and what to take off the list. Due to the size Genggong and its very friendly staff you almost feel like being part of an Indonesian family. This is a very secluded place at the edge of paradise, the tranquility and value you are getting here is incredible.
