It's the only 5 star resort in the northwest of Bali. When a driver arrived to pick us up from the last hotel we stayed at I asked him if he liked working at the Matahari. He replied, 'Yes, we're like family. People have been working there a long time and it's family.'
That was how our 24 hours began and I paid attention after that. The rooms are beautiful, the food is excellent, the menu is creative and varied and you will pay resort prices. When you're there, pay attention to the details, such as the care the staff takes with their job and your needs. The table settings are unique and handmade from the local village, the bread is baked fresh on the premises. The chef is Balinese and he comes out from the kitchen during meals to talk to a few of the guests and check to see how people like the meal.
These are the details you want to notice and appreciate when you're staying a real 5 star resort that cares about quality of service and your experience. The General Manager clearly sets the tone for the energy and attitude of the staff. The staff have a sense of humour, they are smiling and happy to be at work, they enjoy each other and the guests and it shows.
For my birthday I received fresh flowers in my room with a warm note from the General Manager and staff. Then, at breakfast the staff brought a small birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday. It was fantastic. The cake was fabulous! Baked on site! We also had the best Irish Coffee's with fresh cream served to us with smiles and jokes from our wait staff.
The rooms are well spaced apart from each other so there's no real noise, just peace and tranquility. The higher priced rooms are just as nice and luxurious inside as the lower priced rooms, the main difference in location and size. (higher priced ones are closer to the beach and bigger square footage) Our room had an outdoor shower - which was a huge stone gargoyle and an indoor bath/shower. Totally unique!
It was a fantastic stay and a true 5 star experience! Highly recommend it.
