After 20+ hours of flying, we landed in Bali and within 10 minutes of gathering our bags and clearing customs, we entered the welcoming and efficient Santika resort. While registering, we were delighted with a refreshing and mildly sweet lemon grass drink. There are different options for lodging ranging from premiere rooms to beachfront villas. We are staying in a premiere room which we find to be clean and comfortable. There is a huge king+ size bed, a view of the pool from the balcony and a step down living room/desk area. The decor is in Indonesian style. I am impressed with the attention paid to lighting in the rooms, even backlighting a stone sculpture! The bathroom is upgraded yet small. There are 2 large pools and a beautiful bar/dining house on the beach, which is set back just enough to feel removed from the walkers and vendors traveling along the stone path that hugs the ocean for miles in either direction. The breakfast buffet is abundant and has both local and western offerings made to order and self serve. The open air setting with live Balinese music are the kinds of surprises and touches that make vacations special. While we are only staying here a couple days before flying on to Wakatobi to dive, I would definitely recommend staying at Santika if you want to be close to the Kuta scene and the airport, and if you want a larger resort. Also, happily one doesn't hear the planes because the flight patterns are away from the resort!
