A less touristy side of the Island of the Gods

Away from the bustle of touristy South Bali is the northern part of the island. Here is Aneka Bagus Resort. In the genre of well maintained and reasonably priced hotels, Aneka Bagus has quality rooms and villas nestled among verdant and lush tropical landscaping. The staff are extremely friendly and seemingly, for Bali, untouched by touristy trappings. The resort seemed rather empty so we were upgraded to a villa rather than the standard room we had paid for before our arrival. The villa in which we stayed was spacious with a small sit out and consisted of a large airy room, a small powder room and an open air bathroom. It was scrupulously clean (despite the immediate presence of a small beach from which we would track in sand). A plus was the largish pool from which one could look on the sea. For whatever reason, the few other hotel guests were all East Europeans. The resort has a poolside restaurant serving Indonesian and western fare although it has to be said that the food for vegetarians is a bit unimaginative. The resort is about mid-way between Gilimanuk and Lovina, on the quiet coast of northern Bali. The hotel is perfect for lounging in - whether in your room or by the pool. Perfect for idling away a warm summer's day.
