A Hidden Gem

Tucked away down an unassuming lane off Poppies II, Bali Sandy Cottages isn't the easiest place to find. However, this is what makes it a hidden gem in the often crowded and at times frustrating Kuta area of Bali. When we visited, a couple of rooms were still being built, but they were on the far side of the hotel and didn't detract at all from the rest of the accommodation. The rooms that are finished are reasonably spartan, but then at the price we paid you couldn't expect more. Some have air conditioning, while others have fans, although you probably don't need the former - we certainly didn't. One of the great things about Bali Sandy Cottages is that Popies Lane II is about a 3 minute walk away, while Kuta Beach is about 8 or 9 minutes; in other words it's perfect for whatever you want to do in Bali, really. Another plus is that as soon as you step outside you don't get the ubiquitous hassle - that only comes after about 3 minutes. The staff were generally pretty good, with no major complaints, while, although the breakfast is a standard pancake and coffee affair, it is included in the price of the room. The sleep quality can, at times, be a bit of a negative, but then there's few hotels in Bali that ensure you an uninterrupted sleep, so it's only a minor gripe. All in all, my wife and I loved Bali Sandy Cottages and will definitely be staying again in the near future.
