My friend and I decided to have a four day break in Bintan. Our stay was at the Nirwana Resort. This property is huge. It encompasses 4 other hotel and villa types to suit all budgets. when we arrived a small dance troupe greeted us and also a welcome drink. The twin room was spacious and very clean with a range of toiletries as well as a room safe. Very handy. Our hotel had a rimless pool with a swin up bar. There was also a pizza pool restaurant and a Bistro, and a Japenese Restaurant (Rin) in our complex . The other Hotel/ resorts had a seafood restaurant ' Kelong', ' Spice' Indian,Thai, Beach Club, and a BBQ beach .It was so easy to get to these as the hotel has a FREE shuttlebus between them all. Best part is when you dine at any of the other places Its is all Billed back to you Room, so no need to carry big cash. Now I know from previous reviews some folk have not been happy to pay in Singapore Dollars and then have the amount appear on you credit card statement as Indonesion Rupiah.. But let me tell you with the good Aussie dollar exchange rate, we thought it was cheap. and worthwhile. You can also hire motorised electric pushbikes, we did this for two hours and covered the entire complex. There is also a factory outlet in the grounds, a Bowling alley, Karaoke, Elephant rides, Mini Zoo, Iguanas..... the list goes on, and we did it all.. FANTASTIC. The staff in every place where welcoming and always had a smile. We also went outside the complex to a small tourist built town called Pasar Oleh Oleh. had a 2 hour massage, manicure and pedicure here and it only cost $60 each. A small restaurant here Called Helo Helo ( Oleh Oleh backwards) had some nice satays, rice, nasi etc at very reasonable prices. Opposite Oleh Oleh (accross the road) is another complex More Modern called Kampong Lagoi, It also has Restaurants,Polo shops and handcrafts. We managed to score a driver/Car here to take us to the the capital of Bintan (TanjarPinang) it cost $80 for all Day and we covered the whole island. ( if you book a tour from the Hotel it will cost you Double that.) All in all this was a fantasic break about an hour ferry ride from Singapore. I think when the Australians catch on to this place it will become the NEW BALI. I for one will be going back.
