Local Transport Bali has a large range of transport facilities, from taxis and tour buses to public buses and bemos which cover set routes. The Travel Agents of Bali have access to a fleet of luxury coaches, some air conditioned, and there are also many private hire companies with rental self-drive vehicles, from jeeps and open safaris to motor-bikes and bicycles. AIRPORT TAXIS are available from Ngurah Rai International Airport to most destinations at a fixed price, prepayable at the airport transportation desk. PRIVATE TAXIS are available in and around major hotels, and can be called through the hotel transportation counters or stopped directly on the street. BUS TOURS & DAILY EXCURSIONS are offered by many hotels and travel agencies. Air-conditioned vehicles are available on request at a surcharge. LOCAL BUSES are available to most regional areas from the main bus stations of Batubulan (to north and east Bali) and Ubung (to west and north Bali). They may also be stopped anywhere on their main routes. LOCAL MINIBUSES for short and long-distance rides depart from the main bus station of Batubulan (to north and east Bali), Ubung (to west and north Bali) and Tegal (to Kuta, Tuban and Nusa Dua). BEMOS are a popular means of local transport. These are covered pick-ups which cover a set route and service most parts of the island on short distances. Fares vary according to distance. DOKARS are small horse-drawn carts that serve as convenient transportation after hours and off the beaten track. They service the route between Kuta and Legian at night, and also line up at the northern end of Diponegoro street late at night when little other public transport is available in Denpasar. CARS AND MOTORBIKES are available for self-drive rental. Temporary driving licenses are issued by the Traffic Police Department. International driving licenses are acceptable. Crash helmets are compulsory for motorcyclists and pillion passengers. Check if insurance is included in rental. BICYCLES are for hire in some hotels and in most resort areas. Road Regulations |
