Opening Ceremony 
Opening parade of the 20th Bali Arts Festival. 
Place: From Puputan Badung Square to Art Centre Denpasar. 

8.00 p.m. - 10.00 p.m. 
Performance of Ramayana dance drama, entitled Ayodya Kanda by SMK 3 (Secondary School of Dance and Music) of Sukawati Gianyar. The dramatic art known as sendratari began to become popular in Bali around 1960s. But the colossal sendratari, a large scale performance involving hundreds of dancers only dates back to the first Bali Arts Festival in 1979. Taking place at the Ardha Candra stage of the Art Centre, sendratari [performances at the festival generally attract the audience of over 4000.

Monday, June 15th (Badung Regency Day)

Performance of wayang wong dance drama by Bilok Sidan group of Petang. Wayang Wong (human performers). The story is told Balinese language.

8.00 p.m. - 10.00 p.m. 
Performance of Arja Basur dance drama. 
Arja is a Balinese theatrical form combining dance, singing, indigenous story and comedy. The characters speak Middle  Javanese as well as high Balinese both in the dialogue and in quoting poetry. What they say is then translated into low Balinese by the clowns.

Tuesday, June 16th

Ngelawang Barong Kadingkling performance. An archaic form of Wayang Wong with exorcistic functions. Barong means the Balinese protector-dragon. From the village of madangan Kelod in Gianyar.

Men's Gong Kebyar Festival: Bangli Regency group versus Denpasar group. A gong kebyar (music performance) festival  has been one of The Bali Arts Festival main attractions.

Gamelan Slonding is a sacred gamelan of iron keys, found in many eastern Bali Aga. (Original Balinese) village.

Janger and Dag (classical and pop) by the Regency of Badung vs Denpasar. Janger is a modern type of dance involving a dozen or so young men and women who sing  sometimes as a single chorus, sometimes as two separate chorus.

Clasical and contemporary Gamelan performance by STSI, SMK 3 and other well known Balinese artists
