Tangga You are taken to a field next to an orange plantation above the Bungai river in the heart of Bali, about thirty minutes out of Ubud. Each member of the party is equipped with a pilgrim's staff, and a traditional back-pack containing drinking water and fresh fruits to eat on thw way. You then set off, single file, down the side of a small ravine to cross the river on a bamboo bridge, or on natural stepping stones. On the other side of the river, you find the first of the temples - Pura Taman Sari - very, very old, and covered in colling moss. Here you pause for quiet contemplation. Now the stairs. A steep climb that takes the party above
tree line. Below you is the panorama of Bali; above you the Puncak Tedung. On the way to the next stop the Tedung deck, where view get even better, more panoramic, more spectacular. Here you pause for a refreshing drink of fresh coconut juice, straight from the coconut the way the Balinese like it. Then, with the views, the lunch Balinese food served in a
traditional manner, the aspect of a quiet serenity, there is no sense of time or place. The tjhird temple is Pura Marga Tiga. Very small and very old. Again, you stop to spend some quiet personal time in the sanctity of this holy place. Finally, the last stage of the ascent takes the group to
the pinnacle of the journey. The temple Pura Puncak Tedung, which was built in the 16th
century, and is situated at both the geograophical and spiritual nature of the island. Now, all that remains is a short trek down the othe side of the mountain to where the vehicle awaits, to return you to your hotel. This is an incredible journey.
