The place you want to get is located about 95 kms from Denpasar city. So total of your
journey will be more than 190 kms (return). If you hotel ocation is in Nusadua, we will
pick you up at 08.00 am; Kuta, Kerobokan and Sanur at 08.45 am; Ubud at 08.30 am.
Your Journey
Your journey will start from your hotel. For those who stay in Nusadua, Kuta,
Jimbaran, and Sanur, their journey to Negara will through Denpasar city, Ubung, Mengwi,
Tabanan, Bajra, and Pekutatan. If you are staying in Ubud, we have to pick you up firstly.
From Ubud we go to Sayan, Mambal, Penarungan and Mengwi village. From here we eill keep on
our journey to Tabanan, Bajra and Pekutanan.
From tradition to modern annual event
An early morning start is necessary to drive westward to Negara, a small town
situated about 90 km west of Denpasar. The " Makepung " bull races are unique to
this town.
 The bull use for racing are carefully selected for strength and
color, given special food, and never used for polishing the fields. They are decorated
with painted horns and enormous wooden bells, and each pair has a silk banner attached to
the harness. The competitors are first paraded before the spectators, and then the rice is
on, over a two-kilometer stretch of road. Each team is judged for speed and style, and the
reach amazing speeds for such docile animals, their charioteers driving standing up,
encouraging the bulls in every possible way the run their fastest. It is a great
opportunity for the locals to gamble, and the families of the winning pairs gain great
prestige. The bull racing season is generally between July and October.
Completing your tour
After the performance finished, our guide will take you back to your hotel using the same
route you have used before when you came from.
