Karangasem
Karangasem is a regency in the eastern part of Bali. The capital, Amlapura was previously the seat of the most powerful Rajadom of Bali. The Royal Palace has a fascinating mixture of designs from Europe, China and Bali in its architectural design and layout. The late king, Anak Agung Ketut Anglurah, built architectural 'follies' and among them are the extravagant Water Palace at Ujung and the Resthouse at Tirta Gangga where natural springs feed a series of beautiful pools. Both Water Palaces has been severely destroyed by a succession of earthquakes in recent years.
