Textile is a cloth, which is either woven by hands
or by machine. "Textile" has traditionally meant, "a
woven fabric". The term comes from the Latin word texere, meaning
to weave.
Fibers are the raw materials for all fabrics. Some fibers occur
in nature as fine strands that can be twisted into yarns. These
natural fibers come from plants, animals, and minerals.
For the Balinese people, textiles play an important rule. It is
not only for their daily life but also for the ceremony. The Balinese
textiles also become a symbol indicating the social status and well
being of the wearer.
Now, the Balinese textiles whose best samples can
be found in museums as far as Switzerland metamorphose into various
kinds of products.
However, the Balinese textiles, such as songket,
prada, gerinsing are still intact to their functions for ceremony
and only appear in special ceremonies.
