| Even though Bali has numerous gifted sculptors,
they have not emerged as creators because their works are mainly anonymous.
When they made their works these traditional Balinese sculptors never
mentioned their names on their works. Therefore they were never called
creator. The boom of tourism made these sculptors write their names
on their works, in order to easily contact them for further demand.
The Balinese sculptor used natural media such as wood or stones
to carved their imagination. The early sculptors made their works
for religious purposes, only as the demand of market began to influence
their works and their works are saleable, the sculptures became
less religious. However, some sculptors remained to work in terms
of religious context.
Most Balinese sculptors remain intact to their cultural root while
they work on the other hand they also follow the modern art. The
contemporary art develops in line with the influence of foreign
artists.
Today, sculptures are made of metal too. The designs vary and most
of them are contemporary and some are abstract. Sculpture as the
way of artists to communicate their ideas with their environments
and people, like other fine arts, is changing with time and also
demand of market.
As in our collection of sculpture, we only offer fine art sculpture
not the mass-produced works.
